Polycarbonate roof sheeting has several benefits. It offers exceptional impact resistance, high levels of light transmission, good workability and good fire rating. MODEK polycarbonate sheeting is resistant to chemical attack and corrosion in most industrial and marine environments.
The benefits of Modek polycarbonate roof sheeting was highlighted in a recent article by SA Roofing Magazine and be summarized as follows:

Resistance to chemicals/corrosion: MODEK polycarbonate is highly resistant to corrosion and high concentrations of mineral acids, many organic acids, oxidising and reducing agents, neutral and acid salt solutions, many oils and fats, saturated aliphatic and cyclo-aliphatic hydrocarbons and alcohols.

Suited to coastal/marine applications

Polycarbonate is a fashionable roofing item: At Modek, a range of colours is manufactured with the standards being clear, white (opal 50) and bronze. Silver (Heat Stop), blue and green.

Polycarbonate roof sheeting is ideal for DIY: Modek roof sheeting is easy to transport, cut and install

Polycarbonate is a cheaper and stronger alternative to glass: Glass weighs six times more than polycarbonate and needs constant maintenance and cleaning, whereas the impact strength of polycarbonate is 200 times higher while costing much less. Polycarbonate roofing requires only an occasional wash down with soapy water and is easy to clean without damaging the product. Polycarbonate sheets are also combined with photovoltaic (PV) roofing panels as the product is lighter and more durable than glass - Germany’s Bremer Weser Stadium is one such example.

Excellent weatherability: Polycarbonate translucent roofing is becoming more popular as designers are modifying homes to suit the South African climate and reduce energy costs. One such product is Modek Heat Stop, an innovative development in polycarbonate translucent roof sheeting which effectively eliminates 60% of the radiated heat of the sun, resulting in a cool shaded environment.

Modek polycarbonate is a cost-saving product: Polycarbonate sheeting allows diffused light, which reduces eye strain and the need for electricity. The natural/visible light levels and amount of solar energy/heat can be adjusted by using different colors, thicknesses and amounts of polycarbonate roof sheeting.

Durability:A layer of highly UV stabilised polycarbonate is co-extruded on the weathering side of all Modek PC roof sheets. This layer will not crack or delaminate, and ensures years of clear performance in the harsh South African climate.

Modek has also produced a new range of Polycarb sheeting especially formulated for the domestic market. What was previously only available in 1mm is now 20% thinner, without losing any of the core benefits, and what’s more - it rivals all imported product ranges currently available.
