ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY ROOFING

Modek has made a commitment to developing more environmentally friendly products, without compromising the key benefits or quality. We’ve approached this commitment in four ways:
• our new product formulation;
• the application of our products;
• supporting “green” projects; and
• by reducing scrap
Modek is also compliant with the new EE regulations for buildings in South Africa.
OUR NEW FORMULATION
Modek has developed an exciting new range of Polycarb sheeting for the domestic market. Previously the sheeting was available in 1mm, but is now 20% thinner, without losing any of its benefits.
OUR APPLICATION
Our polycarbonate sheeting is one of the most advanced polymers available, offering a virtually indestructible translucent roofing material. These sheets also have a co-extruded layer of highly UV stabilized polymer on the surface to make it weather-resistant, which means they last longer. Likewise, GRP rooflights produced by MODEK are extremely resistant to degradation by the elements, do not rust or corrode and are unaffected by most aggressive chemicals. In fact, many GRP rooflights produced over forty years ago are still in use today!
OUR CAUSES
Modek has supported the Nyoka Ridge wildlife project with donations for the construction of a much-needed rehabilitation clinic for the endangered Cape Vulture.
REDUCING SCRAP
MODEK takes responsibility to reduce the impact that we have on the environment wherever possible.We use international industry scrap standards as a benchmark, aiming to generate a nett negative scrap rate of between 3% - 5%, and in fact our state of the art machines generate less scrap and reuse nearly all of their waste.
We strive to reuse as much of the scrap generated in our manufacturing processes by blending or reusing the scrap polymer in certain of our products. Scrap gets granulated and then blended into the manufacturing process of more robust products. Only materials which are contaminated with dust (floor sweepings) and burnt material are discarded. Reuse of scrap ensures that we remain as eco friendly as possible and promotes the image of plastic as a more eco friendly and Carbon footprint friendly product than other materials.
